Answer Field Options provides several check boxes that allow you to alter various aspects of the answer choice you are adding or modifying. The following is a summary of each option, how it affects the answer, and what additional fields you may encounter when the option is selected.

Response Required

To make a particular answer field require a response, check the option Response Required. With this option selected, when a survey respondent skips over this row, it will trigger an error message.

Restrict Response

This check box will provide the option to limit the Response Length and also perform Response Validation. You can control the length of the text being entered into the text field, such as a minimum length or the maximum length. As for the validation, you can control what type of input is allowed, such as numbers, strings, email addresses, etc.

Fixed Position

This option will only appear if you have Randomize Answer Fields or Alphabetize Answer Fields enabled for the field Answer Order. When selected, this option prevents this particular answer choice from being randomized or alphabetized, leaving the answer choice in place.

Automatic Scoring

When checked, you can set a text field validation that will automatically score certain points when the response entered by a survey respondent matches the validation you have defined. This option will only appear if you have enabled response scoring for the survey in your survey options.

Customize Template for this Answer Field

When creating a template, designers can specify fields that pertain to individual answer fields. If you check this option, additional fields will appear allowing you to customize various aspects of this answer field in the template you have chosen. However, if there are no additional fields, it means the template designer did not create any template fields for this answer field.

Customize Error Messages for this Answer Field

Check this option to customize error messages for this answer field. When this option is selected a new section will appear on the interface labeled Customize Error Messages to further customize specific error messages for this specific answer field.
