This is an optional field that allows you to enter a value (up to 255 characters in length) for each answer choice. The main use for this field is in exported responses, allowing you to code your answer choices so that a respondent may answer Yes or No, but the value will be exported as 1 or 0. Anytime a value is defined for an answer choice, that will be the text that is exported with your responses. If no value is defined, then the answer text will be exported instead.

Another example would be if you had a list of U.S. states for the respondent to select, and would like them to select the actual full name of the state (Florida) but would rather have the two digit abbreviation exported (FL). You would then set the Answer Text to 'Florida' and the Answer Value to 'FL'.

The answer value can also be useful within Help:Template-Toolkit if you have a multi-language survey. Although the answer text will differ from respondent to respondent depending on which language they are taking the survey in, the answer value will always be the same.
