REQUIRED FIELD

The Initial Language field allows you to specify how this publication should determine the starting language for the invited recipient when your survey is available in multiple languages. The ability to edit this on a per-dataset invitation basis allows you to use a dataset column to specify the language. There are four options available:

Use publication defaults

This option is default and will just fall back on the initial language you have setup in your publication editor.

Set language by matching respondent's data set record

If you select this option, an additional field Language Code Column will appear where you can select a column from your data set that contains the respondent's language code. The selected column should contain either an ISO 639-1 code, or a formatted list of acceptable codes like that which would be returned by a web browser in the Accept-Language header. Our service will then attempt to match the language code contained in the selected column to one of the languages specified in your survey and direct the respondent to that language. If no language can be matched, it will fall back to the publication default.

Prompt respondent to select language before starting survey

The default behavior for a publication is to prompt the respondent to select their language before starting the survey. When selected, another window may appear titled Customize Template Appearance for Language Selection which will allow you to customize the screen that appears when the respondent is prompted to select their language.

If you check the Language Option Allow respondent's browser settings to override initial language, the respondent may not be prompted to select their language if their browser has sent notification of their language preferences and they match one of the available languages.

Set a default language for this publication

If you do not want the respondent to be prompted to select a language at the start of their response, select this option and you will be presented with the Default Language field which will allow you to set the language that respondents will start in by default.
