When you create a condition based on a Dates and Times question type, you must provide further information to describe the condition. The first thing you must select is the condition type, which has several possible values.

Respondent Answered Question

In order to include or exclude a response based on a respondent's answer, you will need to select the Respondent Answered Question condition. When you choose this type, another field labeled answered: will appear and you are prompted to Select an Answer Field. You must select one of the possibilities which include all of the answers defined for this question as well as the option [ Any Answer ], which will cause the condition to be true when the respondent answers any of the answer fields that exist for this question.

Once you select an answer field, an optional additional field named entered: will appear. It will prompt you to Select to restrict condition based on response. Leaving the entered: field set to this default value will cause the condition to evaluate true whenever the respondent supplies any valid date in the answer field selected. Otherwise, you can choose to restrict the condition further based on the date entered. You have two options:

  • Set specific dates and times
Choosing this option for the entered: field allows you to restrict the condition to evaluate true only when a respondent enters a date into the selected answer field that falls within the dates and times you enter. Prompts for on or before: and on or after: will appear and you can choose to use one or both of these when restricting the dates.

  • Use response times +/- an offset
Choosing this option for the entered: field allows you to restrict the condition to evaluate true only when a respondent enters a date that is within an offset of the current time or the response's starting time. Once you select this option, a prompt for on or before: and on or after: will appear that lets you choose whether to use the response's current time (the time when the page is loaded) or the response's starting time (the first time this respondent accessed this survey response) as the base time. You can then set an offset (for instance, if you want to hide a question if the respondent enters a birth date that is - 18 years from the response's current time.

All time comparisons are done in the time zone that you have configured for a given survey.

Question Not Answered by Respondent

Select this condition type if you wish to have it return true when the respondent has not answered the selected question.
